Some armour tends to be effective for all three combat styles, such as Void knight equipment and the Slayer helmet (i). However, they give significant magic offense bonuses, and are highly recommended when casting spells in combat. Magic armour provides the smallest defensive bonuses against melee and ranged.It can be useful when using melee against monsters that use magic (or magic-based melee), with the exception of Armadyl armour which decreases melee stats. Ranged armour typically decreases magic attack, although to a lesser extent than melee armour does.However, it is also quite heavy (particularly granite armour), and gives large penalties to ranged and magic attacks.
